Shanta Gold, a junior mining company with interests in Tanzania, listed on London's Alternative Investment Market (AIM) yesterday.
Shanta has projects in northern and central Tanzania, the largest of which is the Mgusu deposit with a total resource of 741 000 ounces (127 000 indicated, 614 000 inferred).
The shares opened at twenty seven-and-a-half pence and were quoted by 10:00 GMT at twenty six-and-a-half.
Tanzania is Africa's third largest gold producing country after South Africa and Ghana, Shanta said in a statement, adding it was under-explored in comparison with other producing countries of its size.
