Senior Management

The senior management of Shanta Mining Company Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanta Gold Limited) brings a wide range of technical, operational, management and social development skills. The Company believes that key to its success is a management team with extensive past experience, a proven track record in gold exploration and development coupled with strong leadership.

Dr Toby Bradbury

Chief Executive Officer

Dr Bradbury has 30 years’ experience in corporate, strategic and operational roles across a broad range of commodities and geographies through which he has gained significant expertise in opencast and underground mining operations as well as in the delivery of development and expansion projects. Previous executive roles have included Chief Operating Officer for Anvil Mining in the DRC and Senior Vice President at AngloGold Ashanti in Ghana where he had full accountability for all in-country operations for both underground and surface mining with gold production capacity of 600,000 ounces per annum. He has a BSc and PhD in Mining Engineering and a Masters degree in Business Leadership and is a Fellow of IMMM and AusIMM.

Eric Zurrin

Chief Financial Officer

Eric Zurrin has 15 years’ experience in mining and investment banking, previously with UBS Investment Bank in London. Eric re-joins Shanta having previously worked across a range of roles with Shanta including as interim CFO in 2015/2016 leading the financial restructuring and as a Commercial Analyst advising the former CEO in 2013. Eric is a Canadian national and has worked and lived in North America, the UK, Asia and Africa. Eric completed his Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) in Canada.

Scott Yelland

General Manager of New Luika

Scott Yelland is a mining engineer with over 32 years' in underground and surface operations.   Before joining Shanta Gold, Scott was Vice President Operations - Konkola Copper Mines, Zambia, and was a member of the Konkola Executive Committee.  Prior to KCM, Scott held COO roles with Forte Energy and Berkeley Resources managing uranium exploration and development projects in Guinea/Mauritania and Spain respectively.  Scott has held senior management positions with Highland Gold Mining (Russia), Kinross (Russia), Ashanti Goldfields (Ghana) and Rio Tinto (Brazil and Australia).  Scott started his career working in the Cornish tin mines.  Scott has a Master's degree in Mining Engineering from the Camborne School of Mines, is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

Wally Channon


Wally is a Chartered Engineer with 36 years of metallurgical experience in the mining industry. Wally spent 26 years with Anglo American and 10 years with Zimbabwe Platinum Mines as General Manager Processing and Consulting Metallurgist. In addition to a general metallurgical role for production operations, Wally has been involved in the design, construction and commissioning of various processing operations throughout Africa. Wally's experience spans gold, ferrochrome, nickel and PGMs.

Dr Menrad Kambewe

Social Development and Sustainability

Dr Kambewe is a Tanzanian national and a trained medical doctor. He has studied in Tanzania, South Africa and also Australia completing his Masters in Science in Occupational Health & Safety at the University of Newcastle Australia. Dr Kambewe has worked in Tanzania since 1996 as a medical doctor for various companies and agencies including International SOS and African Barrick Gold as Superintendent in Occupational Health & Safety. Dr Kambewe currently leads the role of Group Sustainability, Occupational Health and Community Relations Manager for the New Luika Gold Mine.

Romani Urasa

Chairman SMCL

Romani is a Tanzanian national with over 40 years of international and in country business experience. Prior to joining Shanta in 2006, Romani spent over 25 years with the United Nations based in Geneva where his responsibility included eastern Africa. Romani is Chairman of Shanta Gold's only operating company – Shanta Mining Company Limited (SMCL).

Philbert Rweyemamu

General Manager of Singida

Philbert Rweyemamu is a Tanzanian national with 38 years of mining industry knowledge gained in Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana in gold and diamond operations including running and closing mines, fostering community and government relations as well as developing coexistence between Artisanal and Small-scale Miners and Mine operators.  Philbert holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from Camborne School of Mines and Master of Science (Mining Engineering- Geomechanics) from University of Exeter, England.
